ABLE4Business Training

Supporting confident, boundaried conversations in the workplace

ABLE4Business is a three-day training programme designed to support managers and staff in navigating challenging workplace interactions with confidence, clarity, and care.

Grounded in a time-bound brief intervention framework, the training equips participants to recognise, respond to, and manage signs of distress in the workplace while remaining within the boundaries of their role and responsibilities.

Why ABLE4Business Training?

Work plays a significant role in most people’s lives, yet the impact of workplace relationships on wellbeing, engagement, and performance is often underestimated.

During times of change, pressure, or challenge, people frequently turn to a manager or colleague for support. While these moments can be important opportunities for connection, those who are “turned to” may feel unsure how to respond particularly when time is limited and workloads are already stretched.

Strong relational capability acts as a protective factor, supporting individual wellbeing, team functioning, and organisational effectiveness. Conversely, poor communication and unboundaried responses can increase stress and risk for individuals and teams.

ABLE4Business was developed to respond to this reality in a practical, realistic, and sustainable way.

The ABLE Brief Intervention Framework

At the heart of ABLE4Business is a simple four step framework that supports brief, skilled, and boundaried conversations in the workplace.

The framework enables participants to:

  1. Respond helpfully and respectfully in moments of difficulty
  2. Offer focused attention without taking on additional responsibility
  3. Support others to identify their own actions and next steps
  4. Close conversations clearly, while keeping the door open for future support

This approach recognises the realities of busy work environments and supports effective responses without over-extending the listener.

Course Aim

The aim of ABLE4Business is to strengthen relational capability in the workplace by equipping participants with practical skills to respond effectively to distress and challenging interactions, in a way that is respectful, time-bound, and appropriate to role.
